Policy in Wales

New National Assembly BuildingYn 1999, cafodd Cymru bwerau wedi'u datganoli, a thrwy Lywodraeth Cynulliad Cymru y mae'r wlad bellach yn gwneud ei pholisïau a'i strategaethau ei hunan ar faterion sydd wedi'u datganoli mewn ymateb i flaenoriaethau cenedlaethol a lleol. Mae Sustrans Cymru wedi cynnig sylwadau ar y mentrau hyn ar lefelau cenedlaethol a lleol, a byddant yn parhau i wneud hynny. Bydd fersiynau y gellir eu llwytho i lawr o'r ymatebion hyn ar gael ar y dudalen hon.

Bike and National Assembly OfficesIn 1999, Wales gained devolved powers, and through the Welsh Assembly Government Wales now makes its own policies and strategies on devolved matters in response to national and local priorities. Sustrans Cymru has and will continue to comment on these initiatives at both national and local level. Downloadable versions of these responses will be made available on this page.

Social Justice report

A quarter of households don't have access to a car - in communities like Blaenau Gwent and Merthyr as many as 35% of families are car-less.  For the last fifty years the building of new roads has been seen as the way of bringing prosperity to deprived communities.  But is this true?  The challenges of tackling climate change and obesity and the grwoing cost of oil are all forcing a re-think of existing transport policy, but it is our view that much more investment in sustainable travel will bring Social Justice to the poorest parts of Wales.

Sustainable Transport Cymru

Sustainable Transport Cymru is an alliance of Welsh organisations from the private, public and voluntary sectors.  We support efforts to reduce the environmental impact of travelling and to create an environment where people have access to essential local services without the need to use a car.

We believe a package of complementary measures is urgently needed to change travel behaviour and lock-in the benefits to reduce traffic.  With more than a third of households in parts of Wales without access to a car we believe that the National and Regional Transport Plans should commit to a comprehensive package of hard and soft measures to reduce car dependency and encourage active forms of travel.
