Saltcoats to Ardrossan

This largely traffic-free route from the railway station in Kilmarnock to the ferry port of Ardrossan follows disused railways and riverside paths through Irvine and towards Kilwinning passing the Garnock Floods Nature Reserve and Eglinton Country Park.

The route then heads east on minor roads to Stevenston before rejoining a traffic-free path following the sand dunes and giving wide sweeping views across the Irvine Bay towards the Isle of Arran. At Ardrossan, you can take your bike on the ferry to the Isle of Arran, known as ‘Scotland in miniature', where the route continues from Brodick to Lochranza. The route provides a fantastic opportunity to explore this part of Ayrshire.
