Scottish research projects

Sustrans undertook three research projects, funded by the Scottish Executive, from 2002 to 2004. The final reports of each of these projects is available below.

Rural Road Traffic Calming

This project aimed to improve safety on minor roads for non-car users through rural road traffic calming. The project included production of a best practice information sheet (790kb pdf), designs for six demonstration sites and a final report (8.8Mb pdf).

Auditing Access for Disabled People

This project aimed to extend facilities for disabled users of the National Cycle Network by auditing all traffic-free sections of the network with regards to access for disabled people. The project included production of  information sheets for disabled users (please see the 'Access for Disabled People in Scotland' page) and a final report (2.4Mb pdf).

Safe Routes to Stations

This project aimed to make rail stations more accessible to those who access them on foot and by bicycle. The project included production of a Safe Routes to Stations factsheet, survey and monitoring of 12 Scottish stations, and production of a final report (part one) and final report (part two).
