Route development

The Chester Greenway

Mickle Trafford Extension

The path is now extended to the village of Mickle Trafford, the new section opened in October 2009 and has proved to be very popular. It features several pieces of unique public art, and some beautiful rural cycling.

Blacon Old Station

The Chester Greenway has also benefited from the recent opening of the Blacon Old Station project, aspects of the former station at Blacon have been recreated to provide an attractive community space in the heart of Blacon for everyone to enjoy. The site features wood sculptures, new footpaths and steps, benches, information boards and picket fences and signals reflecting the railway heritage. The final element; a mosaic created by local school children, will be installed in 2010.

The £94,000 project involves Cheshire West and Chester Council, Sustrans and Blacon Community Trust. It includes £50,000 from the Big Lottery Community Spaces Fund managed through Groundwork UK and £35,000 from WREN, a not for profit business that awards grants to community projects across the UK on behalf of Waste Recycling Group.
