Great Central Cycle Ride |
The northern end of the Great Central Cycle Ride starts in Leicester and follows National Route 6 south out of the city becoming Regional Route 70 at Wiloughby Waterleys and follows country lanes entering Northamptonshire at Stanford on Avon. The route in Northamptonshire passes through Crick, Daventry, Milthorpe and Syresham before continuing to Buckingham and Steeple Claydon or Winslow (via National Route 51) in Buckinghamshire.
Route development
Northamptonshire
Most of National Route 53 in Northamptonshire follows quiet roads and, when the time comes, will need only to be signed. More work is needed in Kettering and the Borough Council has started work on a cycling network plan in which we are involved. The other crucial difficulty is the A5 crossing, east of Rugby.
Northamptonshire
The route is being signed along country lanes between Oundle and Thrapston, from where a section of new railway path continues to Irthlingborough.
The news is also good from Northampton where resources have been found to build the long-promised Swan Valley to Upton Greenway bridge that will provide a critical point of access to the Nene Links Connect2 scheme, forming part of Regional Route 71.
