Midlands
There are several Connect2 schemes in the Midlands, all developing new crossings of busy roads, rivers or railways linked into networks of walking and cycling routes to enable many thousands of people to walk and cycle more every day.
Sustrans' Bike It is expanding, helping many thousands of children in the Midlands to cycle more to school. Our Active Travel team is also enabling many adults to rediscover the joys of walking and cycling through their local communities, helping them to incorporate physical activity into their daily lives.
We are extremely lucky to benefit from so many dedicated Sustrans Volunteer Rangers who give their time to help us to look after the National Cycle Network throughout the region. They are our eyes and ears on the sections of Network in and around their communities, and our work would be much harder without their commitment and support. To find out more about opportunities visit our volunteering pages.
Our work on DIY Streets to put people at the heart of their local neighbourhood, continues, and we are busy connecting many children (and their families and neighbours) from their communities to their schools and beyond with Links to Schools.
We are busy extending and improving the National Cycle Network throughout the region, and information on open National Cycle Routes in the Midlands and reccommended pleasant rides can be found in the county and Easy Rides sections.
