Wimbledon to Sutton
From - to: Wimbledon Station to Sutton High Street
Type: Paths through parks, quiet roads, some short sections on busier roads
Access: Wimbledon Station, Sutton Station
Surface: Tarmac and good quality gravel paths
This route threads together a string of green spaces to create a pleasant, quiet trail between two of southwest London's major town centres, Wimbledon and Sutton. The green spaces are linked by quiet residential streets, so the route is perfect if you're new or returning to cycling and would like to practice some on-road riding as well as cycling in parks.
If you're starting from Wimbledon Station, the busiest part of the route is right at the beginning. You may find it easier to walk your bike the short distance from the station to Buelah Road to avoid the one-way system.
Heading south the route goes through Joseph Hood Recreation Ground at Bushey Mead, where there is a childrens play area and playing fields. Just east of here is Cannon Hill Common with an attractive ornamental canal, which can be a nice picnic spot.
Further south you pass through Morden Park, an expanse of land that was formerly the grounds of Morden Park House, a Georgian country house which still stands in the centre of the park. The park has a pitch and putt golf course and a swimming pool.
Take care at the southern end of the route, particularly around the Angel Hill area, where the route is yet to be fully delivered.
