The Wandle Trail is a fantastic, mainly traffic-free, route that follows the River Wandle from its mouth with the River Thames in Wandsworth, through three boroughs to Croydon, where local transport links offer a perfect finishing point for those with tired legs. The 12 mile route offers a great day out for people of all ages, for those on foot and on bike.

Path in Morden Hall Park

More than ten parks and green spaces lie on the route, providing a great opportunity to see local wildlife and escape the hustle and bustle of south west London. Numerous cafes, pubs and restaurants and local attractions such as Merton Abbey Mills, Deen City Farm and Wandsworth Museum mean that there is something for everyone.

Please be aware that the Wandle Trail does includes busy sections that younger and less confident cyclists may find challenging, in particular Wandsworth Town and Earlsfield town centres. These sections can easily be navigated on foot if necessary; Sustrans is working with local boroughs and a range of stakeholders to improve cycle facilities not only in these areas but along the length of Trail.

The Wandle Trail features in Sustrans' plans to create a network of traffic-free routes in south west London, the Wimbledon & South West London Greenways project. With funding from TfL, we have identified a Greenways network that will link communities to parks, services, amenities and areas of employment.
