The University WayStarting in the centre of Bedford, this route takes you along the elegant Ouse embankment and through quiet villages and gentle countryside to Sandy, with its RSPB nature reserve.

Along the way you'll pass Priory Country Park, a 16th century Dovecote at Willington, and the Danish Camp which was believed to have been used as a boatyard by the Vikings.

Most of the journey is level, with a few gentle hills, just about steep enough to give you the pleasure of freewheeling down the other side.

It's not just for cyclists either. Some traffic-free sections of the route are suitable for walkers, people on wheels and horse riders alike.

A free leaflet/map is available from the Forest of Marston Vale, tel: 01234 767 037.
