Peterborough's Green Wheel is a network of routes in and around the city created as part of a Millennium project. The route is named the Green Wheel because it circles the city with ‘spokes' leading from the perimeter route into the city centre.
The section described here runs west from the city centre along the River Nene, to Ferry Meadows Country Park and through the villages of Marholm and Etton before returning to Peterborough city centre and uses a mixture of traffic-free paths, quiet roads and urban cycle lanes. The section which follows the riverside path from the city-centre to the western end of Ferry Meadows Country Park is particularly suitable for novice cyclists and young children as it is flat and traffic-free.
Peterborough has a wealth of attractions including its impressive Norman Cathedral which boasts a magnificent West Front, Peterborough Museum and the Nene Valley Railway.
