National Cycle Network route 1

National Route 1

National Route 1 of the National Cycle Network is open in Norfolk between Wisbech and Fakenham via King’s Lynn on the Hull to Fakenham stretch of the Hull to Harwich route and between Fakenham and Beccles via Norwich on the Fakenham to Harwich stretch of the same route that links the two ports. The Norfolk section of Route 1 has recently been named the Lord Nelson Way because it crosses the whole County of Norfolk (Nelson’s County), including passing through the village of Lord Nelson’s birth – Burnham Thorpe. The route also forms part of the North Sea Cycle Route – a 6,000 km route through 7 countries bordering the North Sea –see http://www.northsea-cycle.com/

National Cycle Network route 11

National Route 11

National Route 11 is open from Cambridgeshire and approximately follows the railway line north through Downham Market into King’s Lynn.

National Cycle Network route 13

National Route 13

National Route 13 is open north from Thetford to join National Route 1 near Gateley, north of Dereham through which the route passes. Download the Mid Norfolk Cycle Route map (pdf).

Regional Route 30

Norfolk Coast Cycleway / Two Rivers

Regional Route 30 runs around the edge of Norfolk, sometimes shared with National Routes, with a high proportion of the route on roads. King’s Lynn Route 30 is shared with National Route 1 and the routes split just past Wells-next-the-Sea with the Coastal route continuing through Cromer and Great Yarmouth and into Lowestoft. From Lowestoft the route follows the Waveney Valley along the Norfolk/ Suffolk border passing through Beccles, where it rejoins National Route 1, then on through Bungay and Diss to join the Little Ouse Valley and National Route 13 near Thetford. The route continues through Brandon to link up with National Route 11 for the route back to King’s Lynn.
