Sustrans in the East of England is benefiting more and more people every day. Our first Bike It officer was appointed in 2007, and we hope that we will have at least 10 officers by the end of 2009, working with over 100 schools, and helping many thousands of children enjoy a healthy, independent journey to school.

In Luton our Active Travel team is inspiring people to return to walking and cycling, enabling people to incorporate physical activity into their everyday lives.

Thousands of Lowestoft residents are being visited by Sustrans TravelSmart to receive the tailor-made information they need to walk, cycle and use public transport more.

Work on developing and extending the National Cycle Network continues, and we are also fortunate to have several Connect2 schemes underway in the region. All of this work will enable people in local communities to walk and cycle more for everyday journeys. Information on open National Cycle Routes in the East of England and recommended pleasant rides can be found in the county and Easy Rides sections.

Our East of England strategic plan (pdf) for 2009-2013 describes how we will extend the reach of our projects, and develop new ones, to help more and more people travel in ways that benefit their health and the environment.
