Volunteer Ranger appeal
Did you know that behind the scenes of our 12,000 mile long National Cycle Network there is a secret army at work?
It's made up of 2,500 volunteer Rangers - who act as our eyes and ears, alerting us to problems and working with us to solve them.
Every year, this team of skilled and dedicated volunteers devote an incredible 140,000 hours of their time to help keep the Network clean, well signed and safe. You may have seen them picking litter, mending fences, clearing back overhanging vegetation or replacing signs. Volunteer Rangers' sheer hard work and desire to improve local routes has been instrumental to the success and popularity of the Network.
I'll let you into a few other secrets too. There are 220 local Ranger groups working together behind the scenes on the Network. These local heroes make immediate repairs to minor problems and report bigger issues so they get fixed rapidly. As well as checking route signs and removing graffiti, they even fill potholes and look after the sculptures along the way.
All we need now is to give Ranger groups the resources they need to improve the Network for all of us - and that's where you come in. See how far your money goes:
- £7.50 could buy a litter picker to keep routes safe and clean
- £10 could buy a saw to cut back overgrowing branches
- £15 could provide a whole group of Rangers with graffiti wipes
- £20 could buy temporary signs to direct users along 10 miles of the Network
- £50 could pay for new signs along 10 miles of route
- £250 could fully equip a Ranger to do all their jobs for a year
Volunteers are making a huge difference locally. Please help us supply the tools and equip and expand the Ranger programme, making the Network even more attractive for everyone by making a donation now.
If you think your local route could do with a little TLC, its probably because there aren't enough volunteers on that patch. We're always looking out for more volunteer Rangers so visit our Get Involved pages if you'd like to find out more.
