Other ways to give

happy kidsHere are some great ways to support Sustrans and the good news is they are all tax effective, so your donation can go further to help our work with schools or our volunteer programme.

Payroll giving

Also known as Give As You Earn, payroll giving allows you to make regular donations to charities through your salary. Donations are deducted by your employer's payroll department before the tax is calculated, making your donation a tax efficient way of supporting our work.

For instance:

In addition, some employers will match your gift at no extra cost to you. Check with your payroll department to see if your company offers a payroll giving scheme and if not then ask them to set one up. When we receive your first donation we will contact you to welcome you as a Supporter.

For help setting up a payroll giving scheme, please call Gemma Hill on 0117 915 0122 or email: gemma.hill@sustrans.org.uk

Donate your tax rebate

lady cyclingDid you know you can donate all or part of your tax rebate to charity? You could give an unexpected boost to our policy work or our information service, making it easier for more people to travel actively and sustainably.

Just fill in the appropriate box on your self-assessment form with Sustrans' unique registered number, XN75383, and then tick the Gift Aid box. Simple!

For more information on donating your tax rebate, please contact your local tax office directly or email us: supporters@sustrans.org.uk

Giving shares

Are you one of the 12 million people in the UK who owns shares? If so, have you ever thought about donating them to charity? Giving shares to Sustrans can be a highly tax efficient way of supporting our work as it is free from capital gains tax, and you can claim income tax relief on the value of donated shares.

The gift of shares can be transferred to Sustrans either by completing a Crest transfer form for each share holding and returning it to us together with the appropriate share certificate(s), or electronically if your shares are held by brokers under the Crest system. For further information, please contact Gemma Hill on 0117 915 0122 or email: gemma.hill@sustrans.org.uk

Gift Aid explained

Gift AidYou can increase the value of your gift to Sustrans, at no extra cost to you, by allowing us to claim the tax back on your donations. You have to be a UK taxpayer and must pay an amount of income tax and/or capital gains tax equal to the tax we reclaim on your donations, currently 25p for every £1 you give.

All you have to do is complete a Gift Aid declaration at the time of making your gift. This declaration will also allow us to reclaim the tax on any future donations unless notified otherwise.

Whether you are paying tax at a higher rate of 40%, or at the standard rate of 20%, Sustrans still benefits from an extra 28p for every £1 donated. Higher rate taxpayers may claim the difference when making their tax returns and then elect to send this to Sustrans as a donation.

Note: Donations made through CAF or payroll giving aren't eligible for Gift Aid as the tax has already been reclaimed.
