Charitable Trusts and Foundations
We greatly appreciate the commitment and generosity of our Trust and Foundation supporters that share our vision of a world in which people are able to choose to travel in ways that benefit their health and the environment.
Their support is critical to Sustrans' work in developing practical and innovative solutions to the urgent transport, environment and health challenges affecting us all. At a time when climate change and obesity dominate the headlines, this work has never been so important.
Whether large or small, towards our core costs or for a specific project, donations from Trusts enable us to act as a catalyst and centre of excellence to motivate local authorities, transport planners and other partners. The independence and credibility this support provides is vital to influence policy and bring about social change.
We are looking to develop the following new areas of work. Your Trust could enable us to:
- Intensify our work with schools and young people, in particular to strengthen our work in disadvantaged areas where children are most at risk from busy roads and speeding traffic
- Develop safe and attractive walking and cycling facilities in your area
- Provide new volunteering opportunities for local people to work together in caring for their local walking and cycling routes and the wildlife habitats along them, in particular for people living in disadvantaged areas, young people and people with learning disabilities
- Pioneer a robust tool to measure the reduction in CO2 emissions resulting from practical large-scale interventions to promote walking and cycling and attest their critical role in tackling climate change
- Pilot an innovative project that will support local communities in disadvantaged areas to transform their streets by creating 'affordable homezones'; neighbourhoods they feel happy, safe and proud to live in
- Promote walking and cycling to help tackle obesity, heart disease and cancer through a range of projects - including practical demonstration projects addressing health inequalities and social exclusion - and influence government health, transport and planning policy to promote walking and cycling as healthy forms of transport
- Roll out the TravelSmart programme - which empowers people to make informed choices on how they travel - to over 1 million people UK-wide and achieve an annual reduction of 800,000 tonnes of CO2 from private car travel
- Initiate an ambitious, exciting new project in London; GOAL 2012 - "Greenways for Olympics And London" - We are seeking partners to help create a 400-mile network of traffic-free greenways throughout the Capital to benefit both visitors to the Olympics in 2012 and generations of Londoners for years to come.
