School Travel appeal
Donate to our School Travel Appeal and with your help we could get thousands of children out of the car and back on their feet
We believe that every child deserves a safe, fun and, where possible, active journey to school, not only to reduce congestion and pollution but also to increase children's independence and establish healthy travel habits for life.
Many parents have little choice but to drive their children to school because of time constraints or lack of a safe route. The government has set a target for all schools in England to develop School Travel Plans by 2010 which is great news. If schools can be inspired to draw up a great School Travel Plan, they can implement initiatives, such as a walking bus or cycle train, which will provide parents with a real alternative to the school run.
It's Sustrans' goal to assist schools with their travel challenges, enable them to develop effective School Travel Plans and implement innovative, practical and realistic measures as a result. Sustrans runs School Travel Action Days in partnership with local authorities to provide a forum for schools to share ideas and get the advice they need to create their own School Travel Plan. Sustrans Action Days really motivate and equip schools to make their school travel plan a force for change.
But we need your help to get more schoolchildren back on their feet so click on the Donate button now.
