You will join your local volunteer group and work alongside other rangers in your area, taking part in group activities such as workdays, signing rides and attending local events on Sustrans behalf.

The Bedford volunteer group are looking for more rangers to join them in looking after and promoting their local sections of National Route 51. There are currently around 8 active rangers in the group and they meet regularly. They are a social group but they would like to recruit a few more volunteers in the area to join them in their activities.

For more information contact the local Volunteer Co-ordinator, Julie Tublin on volunteers-london@sustrans.org.uk or 020 7017 2356.

East Kent: This group covers a large area of the county and need help from more rangers to make sure all the routes in the group's patch are covered. They meet up regularly for rides and attend lots of events on our behalf. Many of the volunteer rangers are also SPOKES (East Kent Cycle Campaign) members. They need help looking after National Route 1 (Gillingham to Dover via Canterbury) and Regional Routes 16 & 17 (Canterbury to Dover).

West Kent: This group currently has only 2 volunteer rangers so we need more volunteers to help form an active group in this area to make sure that the routes are well looked after. The group's patch covers National Route 18 between Tunbridge Wells and Ashford, including Regional Route 12 between Tonbridge and Penshurst Place.

You will also liaise closely with local staff and partners, helping to promote Sustrans' other projects which put people at the heart of activities in encouraging and supporting them to travel in ways which benefit their health and the environment.

Communication is a big part of this role, and as well as introducing new volunteers to the group, it will also involve keeping your group motivated and making activities fun. You'll need to help your group use their skills and interests so they can really get involved.

The Phoenix Trail group currently has around 8 volunteer rangers who are all active individually but need someone to help coordinate more group activities on the trail, and in the local area. The Phoenix Trail, National Route 57 between Thame and Princes Risborough, is a very attractive route, approx 5 miles long, with lots of potential for group activities.

This is an ongoing role and time commitment is flexible, however as a guide we would advise the average commitment is around 1-2 hours per week.

The Bury St Edmunds group currently has around 10 volunteer rangers, many of whom are active individually in looking after their own local sections of NCN route 51 between Stowmarket and Newmarket via Bury. However, they rarely come together as a group so really need a new volunteer liaison ranger to help coordinate some activities.
