Keep yourself and the kids active during half-term
No plans for half-term? Why not take the kids out for a walk or bike ride!
Get them out in the fresh air and enjoy a great time together. Walking and cycling are fun, healthy, free and a great way to spend time with family and friends. With a bit of planning and preparation you should be able to enjoy a great walk or cycle ride.
Choose somewhere to visit with lots of interest such as to the zoo, a city farm, a bird reserve, to the playground or a National Trust property. You could even explore new areas or visit family and friends.
Top tips for half-term walking and cycling trips
- take snacks and drinks to keep energy levels up
- if cycling in the dark or poor light, check bike lights are working
- if walking or cycling in the dark wear high visibility clothing
- keep warm and dry (take extra clothing and waterproofs - just in case).
- Don't forget children in bike seats won't be generating heat like the person doing all the pedalling
- if cycling in a group make sure there is an adult at the front and one at the back. If there is only one adult, stay at the rear, keeping an eye on the children in front
- take a camera and record your trip
