Contracts

Once a route has been designed and any planning permission obtained along with the agreement of any land owners along the route, the project is usually ready to be built.

Unless there is an in house construction team it is usual to employ a contractor to do the work. Sustrans has extensive experience of building routes along with any necessary bridges, signing etc for both ourselves and frequently on behalf of other organisations who benefit from our experience and knowledge.

Organisations like councils will usually have their own contract management expertise and may manage some or all of a project themselves, but smaller groups such as community groups may have few resources or limited experience.

Sustrans can provide a single point of contact for the development of schemes, tendering for the work to be carried out by contract and supervising the work on site once underway. If you would like to know more about how Sustrans can assist in construction of a scheme or just want to ask our advice please contact designandconstruction@sustrans.org.uk.
