The longest open sections of Route 44 are through the beautiful countryside of south Shropshire. This route travels in sections along scenic lanes with plenty of things to see and do along the way.
There are six castles on or near the route. From north to south these are: Shrewsbury Castle, Bishop's Castle, Stokesay Castle, Ludlow Castle, Richard's Castle and Croft Castle.
The open sections of National Cycle Network for this route finish at Ludlow, but you can pick up a National Byway if you want to continue onto Leominster.
