Between Northfleet and Rochester the route is open and signposted. This section is mixed on-road and partially traffic-free along Watling Street.
The open route restarts from Downswood as a great 2-mile traffic-free path taking you into Maidstone, through Mote Park and past the River Len.
Mote Park is a 450-acre park with a wide variety of facilities and attractions including a cafeteria, BMX track, pitch and putt course, model railway and children’s play area. Angling, sailing and model boating clubs all use the main lake.
On leaving the park, you can continue onward to the River Len Local Nature Reserve which is a haven for water vole and soldier beetles. The reserve is a small area of land running along the River Len where it passes under the A249, with a public footpath running along beside it.
