Sustrans is enabling millions of people to get about on foot and bike for everyday journeys by delivering a national project to extend the National Cycle Network into the heart of thousands of communities across the UK.
The project is transforming everyday travel for local people in communities across the UK, creating new bridges and crossings to overcome busy roads, rivers and railways, and linking these to networks of walking and cycling routes, making it easier for millions of people to walk and cycle for everyday journeys.

The Portrait Bench – an innovative national art collection
Each new cycling and walking network will also feature its very own Portrait Bench as part of an exciting new collection of public art. Featuring local community heroes, nominated by the community. The collection will be a unique, innovative national collection of local portraits chosen and nominated by each local community. Each bench will have three life-size local figures cut from weathered steel and installed behind, or in front of, a simple bench.
Big Lottery Funded
Sustrans is working with local authorities and many other partners and funded by the Big Lottery Fund.
