I'm a freelance writer and editor living in Bristol, which I've adopted as my spiritual home. One of the things I love about Bristol is cycling - so many people do it, and it gives the city a very different feel to other large centres like London or Birmingham. I was a keen cyclist as a kid, and got into mountain biking when I moved here from my native Essex. But it wasn't until I had my son in 2008 I began to use cycling as my main means of transport - it's free, it keeps me fit, and Isaac loves it!

A recent study from Denmark has shown that cycling to and from school daily can significantly improve heart health – the first time medical evidence has been cited to show that exercise in children is directly linked to lower rates of cardiovascular disease in later life.
