Come to life

Leave the car behind. It’s an everyday way to improve your neighbourhood.

Walking, wheeling or cycling is an everyday way to improve your health, connect with your community and help bring your neighbourhood to life.

We know that traffic is bad for us – our health, our communities, our environment. And that has to change.

That’s why Sustrans works to make it easier for everyone to walk, wheel and cycle more – and feel better connected and healthier from doing so.

We believe the places we live, work and enjoy ourselves should be planned around people, not cars.

Places where we can leave the car at home and move around safely and healthily by walking, wheeling or cycling.

Leave the car behind and come to life

Getting out of the car and walking, wheeling or cycling has huge benefits for your physical and mental health.

You breathe in fresh air, you feel a sense of freedom, and you forge stronger connections with your neighbours.

But the benefits don’t stop there.

Being active for more of your everyday journeys creates a better environment for us all.

It helps to reduce traffic, clean up the air in our neighbourhoods and create healthier spaces where we can all live, work and play.

And leaving the car at home just one day a week can make all the difference.

Anna and Malcolm

There was a time when, out of ease, I’d just jump in the car to go down the road to get a pint of milk.

Whereas now I’ll take a walk over to the shops instead if I only need a couple of things.

Walking has changed our life. It keeps your mind active, allows you to experience nature, meet new people, and it doesn’t cost you a penny.
