What is Bike It?We know that millions of children want to cycle to school in this country, yet only 1% do. Sustrans has stepped in to sort this out with Bike It, a ground-breaking project which has already quadrupled the number of children cycling to its target schools.
We started Bike It four years ago with just four Officers working in 10 schools each. After great success (some of our schools have a third of all pupils now cycling in!) Bike It has a manager, three regional supervisors and a total of 25 officers, with more expected to join the team soon.
Bike It is funded by the bicycle industry through its "Bike Hub" fund and is also supported by Cycling England and the Department for Transport. We have strong partnerships with many cycling, health and education bodies and people from the business world. We are enormously grateful for all this support, as we believe getting children to start cycling now, is the key to the future of sustainable transport.
In line with the previous three years, levels of cycling at Bike It schools trebled in 2007/08. To get a full report on what Bike It is, how it works and how to get involved, download the 2008 Bike It Project Review.
