This section is here to provide you with further information on our recruitment procedure.
Equal Opportunities
We are committed to ensuring that our employment practices are free from all forms of unfair discrimination. It is our policy to treat job applicants and employees in the same way, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation. As an organisation we aim to ensure that our employees are recruited, managed, trained and promoted on the basis of ability, the requirements of the job and the need to maintain an effective and efficient organisation. Furthermore, we will monitor the composition of our workforce and will introduce positive action if it appears that our Equal Opportunities policy is not fully effective.
Criminal Record Disclosure Checks
Some of our roles and projects, for example Bike It and Active Travel, involve working with young people or vulnerable adults and it is therefore Sustrans' policy that any person offered employment who is likely to be in contact with young people or vulnerable adults in their day to day work, will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure check through either the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB), Disclosure Scotland (PVG Scheme) or AccessNI. The offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory return from the relevant disclosure body.
References
Applicants will be required to provide us with two referees. Employment will be subject to these references being satisfactory.
Confidentiality
Sustrans will ensure that your application form will only be seen by those involved in the recruitment and selection process. Where third party funders are involved in shortlisting for interview it may be necessary to send a copy of your application to them - this is either done electronically or by recorded mail sent for addressee only. Partners are instructed to keep the information confidential and delete/destroy the application forms when short listing/interviews are complete.
Equal opportunity monitoring forms are separated from the application form as soon as it arrives with HR. Information from the form will be securely stored electronically and the form will be destroyed.
Data Protection
As a result of your application for employment with Sustrans, personal information about you will be held. This information is covered by the Data Protection Act 1998. The information you provide will be used to process your application and monitor recruitment statistics only. This information will not be disclosed to third parties, unless the disclosure is required by law or the position for which you have applied is funded by a partner who will be involved in the interviewing process.
