Signing Champion - Barnsley
(ref SGR035)
Signing champions help to maintain an overview of local signing needs and coordinate volunteer signing ofthe National Cycle Network within your group's area. They use the both rangers and contacts with our staff and signing authorities to achieve the highest possible standards of signing.
Signing champions are signingenthusiasts who are systematic and have an eye for detail. Signing champions coordinate the group'ssigning activities, ensuring routes are signed to the highest standardpossible, and that signs are visible, in good condition and clear of vegetationand graffiti.
Signing champions are team players and will help the rangers in their Sustrans volunteer group to maintaina high standard of consistent and continuous signing on their local routes. Signing champions will also need to communicate with their group coordinator, The TransPennine Trail office and the local authority.
You will help to:
- Maintain an overview of signing needs in the area
- Develop links with other signing authorities to ensure that permanent signing is as good as possible
- Help to ensure that all rangers understand how to systematically sign their routes, and follow the procedures in the ranger handbook
- Ensure that any gaps in signing due to inactive rangers are covered by other members of the group
- Ensure that signing along routes is inspected regularly
- Maintain good stocks of temporary signs for use by the group.
The local group is wonderful and supportive.
