Group co-ordinator - Brampton and Haltwhistle Hub

Ref: SGR001

This essential role acts to co-ordinate the local Sustrans volunteer group. Communication with Sustrans staff and volunteers is a big part of this role, as well as making volunteering fun for all locally. The group co-ordinator helps all the volunteers to use their skills and interests so they can really get involved.

You will be involved with our volunteer rangers, staff and partners to help maintain and promote the National Cycle Network (Hadrian's Cycleway coast to coast route/National Route 72 between Capontree Wood (Brampton) and Grindon Hill (Haydon Bridge); Pennine Cycleway/National Route 68 between Bellingham and Slaggyford/Alston; and the 7 Hub tourist loops based on Haltwhistle) and put it at the heart of the local community. You will also help our volunteers and staff to promote Sustrans' other projects which encourage and support people to travel in ways which benefit their health and the environment.

There is a small group of volunteers already active in the area but no formal group. Such a group needs setting up with the help of someone willing to help co-ordinate activities.

The Hadrian's and Pennine Cycleway routes are growing in popularity for long distance challenge riders and local visitors alike. They follow quiet tracks and lanes away from major roads and create wonderful links between Cumbria and Northumberland. The Tourism Hub project for Haltwhistle is developing and local volunteers have adopted the new tourist loops there. There are opportunities for promotional events and practical volunteer activities on these key routes in Hadrian's Wall country

For more information contact your local Volunteer Co-ordinator, Mike Dagley on volunteers-uk@sustrans.org.uk or 0161 923 6050.
