Tell us your story
We'd love to know if our work has improved your lifestyle in any way. Not only will it make us feel happy, your story could help us benefit countless more people.
With so much in the news on obesity and climate change it's easy to see how relevant our work is to get people travelling in healthier and more environmentally friendly ways. But it's those personal stories of fulfilment that will bring our range of practical projects to life in the media. So could you help us reach out to more people by telling your story?
Here are some ideas on the kind of thing that could work:
- Has the National Cycle Network improved your journey to work - is it quicker because you're not stuck in traffic?
- Do your kids attend a Bike It school and have they benefited from a more active school run?
- Has walking and cycling helped you recover from an illness or helped you get fit or lose weight?
- Has your neighbourhood been improved by traffic-calming or a home zone?
- Are you doing anything special with the money you have saved on travel costs?
- Or maybe you met your partner whilst out for a stroll or bike ride on the National Cycle Network - why not share your romantic tale?
If your story could be of interest to a publication or programme, we will pitch it to journalists and try to help set up an interview (we will never put journalists in touch direct without your full agreement). Previous "interviewees" have really enjoyed taking part and seeing the results, although it's perhaps worth stating from the outset that reporters will ask for lots of additional information such as your age and where you're from. This is just to help build the story in the minds of their readers/listeners/viewers. And if it's for a newspaper they'll invariably want a photo too.
The stories are always positive - otherwise we wouldn't want to tell them - and you'll be helping to create a world where people choose to travel in ways that benefit their health and the environment. To tell us your story, please email stories@sustrans.org.uk
Tips for your email:
- Give a brief description of what happened, when, where and to whom
- Tell us how this affected the lives of the people involved - how did you / they feel?
- Please tell us why you think walking and cycling are important - to you and to others
- Don't forgot to include your name and contact details so we can get in touch
Thank you
